Drug classifications: Legality, physiological or psychological effects, *stimulants: speed up the nervous system-cocaine, crack, methamphetimines and ritalin. *Depresants-also known as sedatives, slow down the CNS. barbituates, quaaludes, tranquilizers. * Psychoactives-alter feelings or moods. marijuana. *narcotics-powerful painkillers-opium, codeine, heroine. * inhalants-are volatile non drugs that cause drug like effects. Glue, gasoline * Designer drugs-ectasy....created in a lab. *Hallucinogens=LSD, Mushrooms Heroin use is considered to be on the rise. Recent studies have suggested a shift from injecting heroin to snorting or smoking. This trend seems to have resulted from the misconception that these forms are safer. In addition many users believe that smoking or snorting heroin, unlike injecting it, is non addictive--obviously this is not true.
